I have been buying North face gear for a long time now. The quality is unsurpassed, and the comfort of their backpacks are equally as appealing. I commute to work via public transportation and the occasional bike ride, so a backpack is essential to me being able to tote all of my workout clothing, and work related gear. The pockets of the North Face Surge are a plenty. The molded back panel with breathable mesh, the ability to load your goods a little higher via the angled front bottom, help with carrying the load more efficiently, and more comfortably.

My notebook fits in nicely and safely, thanks to an elastic compression pocket. Also there is a nice padded power cord pocket to help protect against scratching my notebook and other electronic goodies. The North Face Surge pack has pockets that also allow me to store and organize my electronic accessories, which help me out a lot due to the fact that I need all the help I can get to be organized. Also there is an audio port, which allows me to drown out the city and the bus, via my MP3 player, a must have.
The main compartment is large, with plenty of room for books, ledgers, lunch, etc… There is also a mesh pocket on the right side shoulder strap, which I use to hold my cell phone at times. The mesh water bottle holders are great too, allowing for a quick refreshing drink whenever the mood strikes. Another really cool featurs is the tuck away hip belt. I have had packs in the past that have the hipbelt exposed, and I like it hidden. Add in a Safe-T whistle on the chest strap, and there it is, the North Face Surge in all it’s glory.
There are many different kind of daypacks and backpacks that you can buy these days, everything from cheap knock offs to generic packs from outlets. The real difference is the quality of the pack. Good quality backpacks have pockets that are well designed to hold exactly what you need. Many times the cheaper packs just don’t fit right, they also are no where near as comfortable to wear, this is an easy way to see the difference between a proper backpack and a generic or knock off one.
There is one thing to keep in mind, the compression pocket, it will only hold a laptop up to 18 inches, this was not a problem for me but it is still something to be aware of. I bought my North Face Surge Pack online. The price was right, and the website that I bought it from threw in free shipping as well. These new backpacks by North Face are without a doubt my favorite, and I would recommend them to anyone with a pair of ears.
